2. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary – Spanning across an area of over 700 sq km (270 sq mi), Parambikulam is one of the oldest wildlife sanctuaries in Kerala that forms part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It is home to more than 50% of all species found in India including tiger, elephant, wild dog and bison. Its forests are also abuzz with beautiful birds like hornbills, black-and-red broadbill, drongo flycatcher and Asian fairy bluebird. Visitors can explore various trails inside this vast wilderness on foot or on bicycles; camping facilities are also available.
3. Silent Valley National Park – Among the most secluded national parks in Kerala, Silent Valley National Park comprises a stretch of old-growth evergreen rainforest along with some montane grasslands located near the borders of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states.

7) Food

Kerala’s food is a perfect reflection of the diverse communities that reside in this state. The dishes are a blend of Malayali and Tamil cuisine, due to the migration of Tamils who settled down in Kerala after their defeat by the British. Typical dishes include Pathiri (a rice-based steamed dish), Aviyal (a mixed vegetable dish with coconut) and Puttu (steamed rice cake with ghee). A typical meal will consist of at least one accompaniment like Appam(wheat flour pancake), Puri (deep-fried dough ball), Paratha(flatbread) or Idli(steamed rice cake).
